Taronga Western Plains Zoo has welcomed six male Bolivian Squirrel Monkeys to the island on the Savannah Lake this month.

The troop are visiting Dubbo on a temporary basis from Taronga Zoo before they move to Melbourne Zoo permanently at the end of the year.

Bolivian Squirrel Monkeys are found in Bolivia, Brazil and Peru and can live in large troops of between 30 – 50 individuals. They are quick and agile and as they move through the forest they ‘twitter’ and ‘chirup’ to communicate their location to the troop.

The Bolivian Squirrel Monkeys can be seen for free from the terrace near the Savannah Visitor Plaza. See these new arrivals and watch their antics as you enjoy a coffee or a meal from Bakhita’s Café during spring.
