Taronga Zoo Sydney today celebrated the 1st birthday of endangered Pygmy Hippopotamus calf, Kamina. To share the joyful occasion, Taronga Zoo Sydney is inviting guests to enjoy $1 entry on their birthday.
In her first year, Kamina has grown from 5kg at birth to 60kg, and keepers are pleased with her progress as a strong swimmer who loves getting in the water.
“To mark the occasion, keepers made a cake, filled with her favourite foods including watermelon and carrot as well as Mulberry leaves,” said Keeper Tracy Roberts.
Kamina and her mum Kambiri both enjoyed the cake in their habitat at Taronga Zoo Sydney’s Rainforest Trail on Wednesday before taking a swim.
“Kamina loves to get in the water after eating, although her enthusiasm for swimming leaves her absolutely exhausted, so she falls fast asleep from about 2pm,” Keeper Tracy said.
To celebrate, Taronga Zoo Sydney announced the continuation of $1 entry for guests on their birthday. Guests can register their details, and bring the voucher on their birthday for $1 entry.
Guests will receive a special birthday badge to wear on the day and keep as a memento. This means keeper and guest experience teams will know it’s your birthday, so be on the look out for some surprises on your day.
Taronga Zoo Sydney first offered the $1 entry ticket to celebrate its Centenary in 2016, and since then more than 78,000 people have enjoyed their special day learning about the endangered wildlife cared for in Taronga’s conservation programs.
Taronga Zoo Sydney is a non-profit wildlife conservation organisation, and every Zoo ticket, including $1 birthday entry vouchers helps to ensure a brighter future for wildlife. Every $1 donation will go towards Taronga’s wildlife conservation work to protect critical species from Australia and worldwide.
